Fernando Espinel, is an experienced jeweler, professionally trained in Ecuador and Peru as well as Europe. Together with his wife Rosamelia Travi, they operate the small workshop of Tagua 950 in their home in Manglaralto, Ecuador. Fernando designs unique pieces made from tagua (otherwise known as vegetable ivory) and a variety of metals. Fernando and Rosamelia work with rural families to sustainably harvest the tagua nuts. Fernando trains apprentices in his workshop to carry on the unique style. Each piece draws inspiration from the ocean views, coastal landscapes, flora & fauna of the area as well as folkloric influences from Latin American culture and history.
