Rebuilding small farmer communities
We are proud to support the members of the Small Farmer Tea Project (SFTP) in Kerala, India. The members of SFTP are marginalized small-scale producers and members of tribal groups who have suffered from social and economic injustice for generations. They’ve experienced massive erosion, deforestation, and acute water shortages and are working to promote changes in growing practices to rebuild the area through tea production. Most teas–even those that are certified as fair trade–come from large plantations where workers have little say and are trapped in a system of dependency. The small farmers who grow our teas control their land and their livelihoods. Together, we’re building an alternative tea model and a farmer-led future for the tea industry.
